Week 11 or so

Work continues on ribs up forward withthe stringers being lifted out of the way.I am working on the Sampson post - graving pieces where going thru the deck.Takes 2 persons to lift it. Also working on rebuilding the seam above the garboard by gluing a spline on the plank above. The garboard itself has had an edge glued on so we should have a good caulking seam now.No0w look at the state of the 50yr old copper fastnings and the later ss screws the latter showin extenrive crevace carossion.

Week 10

Serious reribbing starting now. There were quite a few ribs in a line that were fractured, portside forward.Had to prop and wedge from the outside to remove the hint of a chine. worked wel and now have a fair hull in this area. It was an experiment as I know we have a more serious similar issue in the engineroom Starboard side.Meanwhile when not required I am scaping the wheelhouse.

Week 9

Now into installing and rietting new ribs.Putting one new set between old and then when secure removing doubtfull old ribs and splicing in new laminates.Up forward where the shape is nt extreme we can get away with 3 laminates later in engine room it will have to be 4.

Two Months!

Gosh time flies. Now into week 8 and have the garboard off. This is where we had the trouble coming up from Bluff-over the years and many raking outs and recaulking had worn the seam out to be too big to caulk anymore. So wll glue a splinr of 20mm Kauri on the top and reshape the seam. The sampson post is out and graving piece glued in where it was passing thru the deck. Also much scraping of paint up forward and new ribs installed in the space between the existing, thus completing the 'doubling up 'started in 1985. Here is the Accommodation plan- Day Saloon aft of wheelhous and Nite Saloon and bunk forward. Access here is from deck only.
Please note that the Deck day saloon and galley span full beam of the boat. Most conversions miss out on this, believing  'walk-round decks' are necessary. No way! We need a protected aft 'verandah' with no gale whistling down the side decks. Ha, how do you tie up? not that we make a habit of Marinas but if one does there will be a sampson post midships outside the wheelhouse door and we will tie up with a short strop and sort the springs and breast ropes later-this is what all the ferries do!.........More later
